Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Several new things to tell you about:

We’ve launched new websites for WPS-Atlanta, a women’s pro-soccer league coming to Atlanta, and for the Susan Rabiner Literacy Agency.  Click on these thumbnails to go there:

We’ve also designed a new web banner for David Morrell’s new novel, The Spy Who Came for Christmas, and the cover for the latest Jazz Improv NY magazine.

Please take a couple of minutes to check ‘em out!

New Websites, Most Designed by Us
Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Of course you know that when we say “Us” in a headline, you know that 99 percent of the time it’s Deena, don’t you?  The rest of us, like Matt, play supporting roles with office administration and ongoing website updates.  (But the royal “we” certainly is a fun way to write.)

Well, with that out of the way, we have two new websites that we designed to tell you about.  The first, for the Perseus Books Group, is a website to promote Labor of Love by Thomas Beatie.  It’s a remarkable true story about how a female-to-male transsexual became pregant when his wife couldn’t have a child.  That site looks like this:

The next site, also for Perseus, is to promote The List by Gail Belsky, a book about “100 Ways to Shake up Your Life.”  That site looks like this:

We also designed a new page for a Perseus website to promote the latest in the blockbuster Skinny Bitch series by Rory Freeman and Kim Barnouin, Skinny Bitch: Bun in the Oven.  And here’s a link to that.

Plus, we designed and programmed a massive online, database-driven archive of I.F. Stone’s Weekly for our clients at IFStone.org.  Here’s a link to that.

Now what in the heckfire did we mean by that “Most Designed by Us” comment in the headline?  Well, a few weeks ago, the folks at the AMC Festival of Trees asked us for help designing a website on the cheap.  So, we gave them a tutorial in the WordPress content management system, helped them format a basic website header, and turned them loose!  The results are at this link.  Their site looks pretty awesome.  Please take a few moments to check out this event benefiting Hospice–and if you’re in the Shenandoah Valley on November 14th, please attend their event!

Deena Interviewed at Geezeo
Friday, October 17th, 2008

Deena was interviewed at Geezeo about “10 Steps to Take Before You Open Your Design Business.”

Among her pointers are to Have a Track Record (#1), Invest in up-to-date software (#7), and Invest in continuing education (#8).  There’s also some advice about insurance, limited liability companies, and financial accounting.  (Step #11: Have an Awesome Husband, didn’t make the cut.)

Alan Jacobson website
Thursday, October 16th, 2008

This week for the Perseus Books Group, we launched a new website for author Alan Jacobson, author of The 7th Victim.  Jacobson’s website is a massive affair, and it was a challenge to integrate it into his existing content-management system.

Please check it out!

Busier’n a Presidential Candidate
Thursday, October 9th, 2008

We’ve been churning out a lot of new stuff during the past month, which you can view in our various online archives:

On our websites page, you’ll see thumbnail images of sites we did for David Morrell’s new thriller, The Spy Who Came for Christmas, and a blog for the ChiZine literary magazine called The Blog at the End of the World.

On our online graphics page, about halfway down, is also a web banner we also made for Morrell’s novel.

On our interactive games and movies page, you’ll see pictures of the new game we designed for the LeBlanc Literacy Challenge.  (Wow, look at those cool bones to roll!)

On our book covers page are three new wraparound covers that Deena designed for Tasmaniac Publications: Stone Cold Calling by Simon Clark and The Nobody by Tom Piccirilli.

On our ads & flyers page is an advertisment for the National Jazz Museum in Harlem’s recent fundraising gala and for Jazz Improv magazine.

You can also see the invitation to the Jazz Museum’s gala on the other graphics page, as well as a banner for them.  Plus, farther down that page are the newest covers for Jazz Improv magazine and the new corporate logo for the Constellation program from Perseus Books Group.

As you can see, Deena Warner Design offers a variety of print and web-design services.  Now if we could only tackle the world’s financial problems. . . .
